There is No Standard Parenting Plan Format in Louisville and Jefferson County

Parenting Plans Are Changing Based Upon Recent New Laws

If you are working through the issues of a divorce and you have children a “parenting plan” will be one of the most significant conversations with your former spouse. It is important to understand that there is no standardized parenting plan format in Louisville and Jefferson County. Parenting plans are unique and should be based upon what is best for the children, not the convenience or personal interests of a parent.

You undoubtedly know of parenting plans that other family members and friends may be following.  These may or may not work for your situation. Louisville parenting plans will greatly vary based upon the ages of the children, their school schedule, extra-curricular activities, the parent’s work schedules and the geographic distance between the homes of each parent.

While cases of abuse, domestic violence, drug or alcohol dependence or neglect will impact parenting time, most plans should strive for consistent quality time with each parent while maintaining as much of the children’s normal “routine” as possible. Your parenting plan should be quite detailed reflecting daily care, school, the extra-curricular activities the children will participate in, religious practices, holidays and vacations.
